One Thing. One State. One Promise.

There are easier ways to build a business than making socks in Vermont.
You could outsource production. Expand into dozens of product categories. Chase cheaper labor or faster scale. Plenty of brands do. But that’s never been our way.
At Darn Tough, we make one thing, and one thing only: Socks. And we make every pair right here in Vermont, USA, with the highest quality yarns sourced from America and around the world. That focus is intentional. For decades, we’ve chosen to put all our attention into making one product as well as we possibly can.
Not because it’s easy. Because when you spend every day focused on doing one thing right, you get better at it.
Why We Do It This Way

At Darn Tough, focus has always been our advantage.
We’ve spent decades refining the sock details most people never think about: the fit around the arch, the durability of the heel, the feel of the seamless toe, and the performance of Merino Wool across changing conditions and long miles. Every improvement builds on the last.
That kind of consistency comes from staying close to the process.
Making socks in Vermont allows us to stay connected to the people, places, and standards behind every pair we produce. It means decisions happen close to home. It means accountability is real. And it means the people making the product care deeply about the work, because this is their community too.
That commitment to Vermont isn't new. It's part of our origin story. When everyone else was going overseas, we doubled down on making socks here. Darn Tough grew from that decision — a commitment to the people, craftsmanship, and community that continue to shape every pair we make today.

Harsh winters, muddy springs, short summers, colorful autumns: Vermont asks a lot from the people who live here. Resilience becomes part of who you are. We think that shows up in the way we make socks, too.
Vermont has always stood for craftsmanship, quality, and a strong sense of responsibility to the people around you. Those values shape the way we operate every day.
We’re proud to make our socks here — not because it’s the easiest way, but because we believe it’s the best way to make socks that last.
The People Behind the Socks

Darn Tough is family-owned, but more importantly, it’s built by families. Our roots are Marc and Ric Cabot, father and son duo. From them, our family tree grows strong.
Many of the people working in our Mills today grew up here. Some work alongside parents, siblings, or relatives. Others have spent decades perfecting their craft and helping train the next generation of sock makers.
Small Town, USA. Nowhere, USA. The kind of place where people know each other, show up for each other, and take pride in doing things well.
That connection matters.
In Vermont, manufacturing is personal. The people making your socks are part of the same communities where those socks are worn. They’re your neighbors, coaches, volunteers, friends, and fellow trail-goers. Pride in the work runs deep because the work reflects directly on the people doing it.
You can feel that kind of care in the finished product.
In the consistency. The durability. The fit. Not just in the socks themselves, but in the company behind them. The same values that go into the product shape the way we operate every day.
We don’t have a great story; we are a great story.
One State. Two Mills. Total Commitment.

Every Darn Tough sock is made in one of our two Vermont Mills: Northfield and Waterbury.
Keeping everything close to home allows us to stay hands-on with every part of the process, from design and development to knitting, testing, finishing, and quality control.
We’ve always believed that nobody ever outsourced anything for quality.
Keeping design, development, testing, knitting, and finishing close to home allows us to stay connected to every step of the process. Problems get solved faster. Improvements happen in real time. And the people making the product are never far from the people wearing it.
That responsiveness is part of who we are.
We often say, “We have yet to produce our best sock.” There’s always another improvement to make, another detail to refine, another way to make a great sock even better. Because everything happens here in Vermont, we’re able to learn quickly and continuously improve the product.

The same goes for our Lifetime Guarantee.
When customers send back well-worn pairs, those claims are handled by real people right here in Vermont. The feedback loop stays close. We see how our socks perform over time, and that insight helps us continue improving every pair we make.
Our socks last a lifetime. We believe Darn Tough will too.
Less, On Purpose
We make one thing, and one thing only.

That clarity allows us to focus on what matters most: making durable, comfortable socks that people trust to perform every day, whether they’re heading into the mountains, onto the jobsite, or simply out the front door. It also allows us to stand behind every pair for life.
And along the way, it’s brought people together. The people making the socks. The people wearing them. The communities connected through hard work, shared values, and a belief that quality still matters. Every pair is made in Vermont by people who live here, work here, and stand behind what they make.
It’s a deliberate choice. And after all these years, we still believe it’s the best way to make socks.
