Real Dogs, Real Life "Darn It." Moments

We’re big fans of dogs here at Darn Tough. If you walked into our Waterbury office, you’d probably see quite a few dogs ― big old puff balls, small pooches, lazy doggos, and excited pups.
We love them all, but sometimes dogs can get into mischief, Darn It. From digging holes in the yard and chasing the cat to chewing up your favorite pair of Darn Tough socks, they can be little rascals sometimes. It happens to us and, apparently, it happens to a lot of our customers as well.
Luckily, if your four-legged stinker destroys your socks, we cover that with our Lifetime Guarantee. Don’t believe us? Here are some examples of socks we replaced after dogs got a hold of them.
Third Time’s the Charm?

“My dog ate holes in two pairs of my socks. These are the replacements which I still can’t believe you cover. You make the best socks in the world and cover them with an unbelievable warranty. I love these socks, and they are perfect for working and playing outdoors. Here in Oregon, we know what works.” - John I.
John, first off, we’re sorry your dog ate your socks — two different times! While we are more than happy to replace your pairs, we do want to remind you that bad things seem to come in threes. So, you might want to stash your new pair somewhere safe or make sure your dirty laundry is off the floor.
But you’re right that our socks are perfect for working and playing outdoors; your dog must know this as well. Maybe it’s their way of trying to get you outside more?
And if your dog strikes again, we’ll still be here for you.
Even Dogs Love Them
“These socks are awesome, they look nice and feel even better. Most wool socks are itchy or not comfortable but with the added cushion on the bottom they are very comfortable, and I could wear them all day. The quality is very good, and they should hopefully hold up to my active lifestyle. Even my dog loves them and is always stealing them when I’m not looking. I just hope he doesn’t chew a hole in them.” - Ken C.
Ken, we’re happy you’re liking the socks, but it sounds like your dog may like them even more.
According to dog training books, most dogs steal things when they’re seeking attention. But in your case, your dog might be trying to take the socks for themself. A true thief. Not sure sock thievery is covered in the training manual.
Luckily since dogs have four legs, they’ll need to steal two pairs of socks for a full set. And at the end of the day, if he does chew a hole in them, we got you covered.
The Gift That Keeps on Giving

“I got some for Christmas and a dog promptly ate one pair. So relieved to find out about the warranty!” - Katie P.
Wow Katie, your Christmas was a real emotional rollercoaster. The highs of receiving a pair of our socks, a Christmas dinner you weren’t expecting, and the relief of our Lifetime Guarantee. That’s like an entire holiday movie’s worth of excitement.
Our socks are known to feel great on feet thanks to soft and comfortable Merino Wool, but we’ve never thought about how they’d taste. That dog may be onto something. Either way, we’ll help you out no matter the season.
Stink Busters

“Darn Tough socks live up to all the hype and have exceeded my expectations. Very comfortable and padded in all the right spots for wearing work boots all day. I was a little skeptical about the claims of helping stinky feet but after wearing them for a short while my feet are way better and my boots don’t make my dog gag anymore. Thank you Darn Tough for making a great sock! I will continue to upgrade my sock drawer.” - Martha H.
Your feet made your dog gag!? Holy moly, Martha, well we’re glad we were able to help you out in that department.
Odor resistance is a super-power of wool. The structure of Merino Wool actually stops sweat and bacteria build-up. So, go ahead and take a whiff. In fact, let your dog take a whiff while you’re at it. If nothing else, they’ll be reassured that they are again the stinkiest creature in the house.
Can’t Keep a Good Sock Down

“I recently adopted a Great Dane, Ray, who has a thing for socks. She will swallow any sock around, mine or my other dog's socks (Abby wears anti-slip socks for his aging hips). I recently received new Darn Tough socks and did not recognize a pair of socks she threw up one morning. I panicked thinking she had a pair in her stomach from her previous life ― I adopted her three months ago. After hosing them off I discovered they were my new Darn Tough socks. Ray swallowed them AGAIN after I rinsed them off. Three days later she threw them up AGAIN. I was curious how well they had survived the second ingestion and rinsed them AGAIN. After 6 washings and mending a small hole, I'm wearing them today.” — Ray the dog's owner
Adopting a dog is a great thing to do; there are a lot of amazing pups out there who need a home. But sometimes you don’t always know what you’re going to get.
Do they have mange? Are they afraid of the doorbell? Have they swallowed a single sock in a past life? These are all questions you have to ask yourself during the adoption process.
Luckily(?) that was just one of your socks, and it sounds like after a half-dozen trips through the washing machine, they’re as good as new.
Cute but Naughty

“The naughty boy at the end of this slideshow is responsible for destroying my brand new Darn Tough socks. Back in December, I bought a bunch of socks for my upcoming backpacking trip to Peru. I wore them once and Knox ripped them to shreds. Darn Tough stands by their product, even though this was entirely my dog’s fault. They sent me a warranty code and replaced my socks. And obviously I had to buy a few more, too 😂 so, for all you pet owners and not pet owners, I encourage you to support #darntoughsocks (they have discounts for first responders and military, too!) ❤️” - @ranger_and_knox
Not sure if you already made it to Peru, but if you did, we hope you had a great time. If you haven’t yet, we hope you have a great time. Either way, that’s an awesome place to hike.
Secondly, if dogs weren’t so adorable, we’d probably be a lot madder at them for chewing up our clothes. We were more than happy to send a warranty code to help you get a replacement pair (and do what we can to help out first responders and military members as well).
We Love Dogs... Really

We love hearing how much our customers love their socks ― and how much their dogs seem to love our socks. Plus, we love dogs. So, for us, it’s kind of a win-win.
Sometimes our dogs sigh like they’ve been working all day and now have to do their taxes, but unfortunately they don't have jobs and can’t pay us back for all the things they destroy. Luckily, our Lifetime Guarantee is there to at least cover your socks. All you need to do is fill out a warranty form and send them in.
And if you want to write a letter or send a photo of your pup, please do.
