Unrivaled Durability

We make one thing, and we make it better than anyone else – ask any thru hiker and you will likely hear the same. In order to unconditionally guarantee a hiking sock for life, it must be durable. It must maintain its comfort, and it has to fit for miles upon miles on-trail. The socks that do return through warranty inform how we can improve. And we do. Our guarantee is a promise to you, but it’s a standard for us. We have yet to produce our best sock, but we get better with every step.

Reviews

Unfortunately I will never go

"Unfortunately I will never go back to normal socks. First experience with socks like this and they're incredible. The odor resistance is no joke and they are crazy thick in the best way possible. The fit was great for my size 11 in shoes usually. The targeted cushion was definitely a plus I didn't know was necessary. The wool makes for a fast drying experience as well."

— Zabdiel R. (5/5)

Best sock available for hiking and backpacking

"If you aren't already familiar with Darn Tough socks, it's time to get familiar. Unbeatable hiking sock. Darn Tough also replaces them when they wear out from normal use in perpetuity. Expensive up front, but they are long lasting, free to replace, and don't need liners."

— Alex H. (5/5)

I have had six pairs

"I have had six pairs of these socks. Very pleased how they feel and easily put on. They wear great, have had some holes come on, Darn Tough replaced those, no problems. I wear these socks hiking and doing landscape work. I put them through some work. They are great socks, if you haven’t tried them, do so."

— Lawrence W. (5/5)

Excellent for Canoe Trip

"I purchased these socks for a trip that I was leading in the Crown Lands. My feet spent most of the day in wet boots and these socks were a life saver. I spent 10 days in three pairs of socks and had no issues with my feet. I highly recommend these for anyone going on a back country adventure."

— Carter D. (5/5)

My go-to biking and cool weather running rock

"These are the first items I make sure I have when I'm going on a cool weather hike or a mountain bike ride. They're super comfy and durable. I've never had an issue with overheating or hot spots, and they remain fairly odorless despite all of the miles I've put them through."

— Devin (5/5)

These are my first pair

"These are my first pair of Micro Crew socks. I haven't decided if I like this style yet and need to give them more time to decide. Also, my initial trial found them to be Just a bit warm for summer. Other than that, they are really nice, comfortable socks with good cushioning. I wore them several days in a row."

— Jeff G. (5/5)

I only wear Darn Tough

"The only socks I own are Darn Tough. I don't mean I own a lot. I mean this is the only brand I have worn for a decade. I have multiple pairs for any occasion. The micro crews are work horses! They pair well with shorts, chinos, or jeans. They are comfortable in a boot, sneaker, or loafer."

— Steve W. (5/5)

The perfect sock!

"I'm done buying other socks. These are perfect for my feet and last forever, literally. With the lifetime warranty it's a no brainer!"

— Jason W. (5/5)

Great socks!

"The socks are super comfortable to wear daily. I’ve used them for work under my boots as well as trail running and hiking. They regulate temperature very well and don’t let your feet get hot and sweaty. I have 4 pairs and they have all held up super well. No holes in the heels or bottom after using for a few years."

— Ian S. (5/5)

Great socks

"Comfortable, wicking and helps prevent blisters. I use Darn tough socks on all my hikes and trail runs. even when they get wet your feet don't get cold. Highly recommend these socks, and they are locally made in VT. Good for all ages and activities."

Q&A

What sock would you recommend for sports activities like basketball or baseball?
We would recommend the Men's Element Micro Crew socks which will be the closest to a typical gym or sports sock, and I would recommend the Men's Westerner if you're looking for an over the calf style. These will be the closest to Basketball and Baseball styles and available in unisex sizing!
I have a size 9.5 hiking Boots and my size L is really tight ,should I go to Xl ?
We would recommend going with a more relaxed style as opposed to a larger size, which will mainly change the fit from heel to toe. Our Tactical styles offer a lot of stretch, and so do the socks knit with Twisted Yarn, which you can find by searching "Twisted yarn" in our search bar!
I recently bought a pair of these hiker crew mid weight socks. I had very high hopes based reviews and friends’ recommendations. Essentially, they do not fit right. I wear a 11 W mens hiking boot and sneaker, 10 1/2 W dress shoe. I bought a size L based on your chart. They are fine in the toe and heel, but tight and bunched on top of my ankle. I have worn them 3 times hiking and they not comfortable. Expensive socks ought to be the favorites. Not so much. What to do?
Hi Kevin, It looks like Aoife reached out to you on Monday. Do you still need assistance? If so, please email support@darntough.com and we will be glad to help!
Where do you put your warranty code when getting new socks on the website?
Hi Joseph. We've reached out to you directly via email! Darn Tough Vermont Support Team 877-327-6883 support@darntough.com
How do I get them to New Zealand?
Unfortunately, due to trademark issues in AU/NZ, we are unable to offer direct sales at this time. Some folks in the region order directly with us using a freight forwarder such as Shopmate. They can also be purchased through https://www.backcountry.com/darn-tough and they offer shipping to Australia as well.
