The Socks That Gave Me Hope

"Never thought I’d be sharing this in a review, but here goes: My home got hit with a hurricane in fall of 2024. Trees toppled, damage to our roof, debris everywhere. No electricity for weeks. No water for months. Spotty cell service. Mud everywhere we stepped outdoors. For the first time in my life, I needed work boots. I didn’t order those until I got electricity back. At the same time, I ordered the socks I kept hearing about wherever I was reading about boots. Contractors, especially, swore the best socks were Darn Tough. Well, I thought, let me try those. Because we still did not have running water at home, we could not wash our clothes. At some point, I realized that the socks were outlasting every single article of clothing I was wearing and re-wearing during this time. They didn’t stretch, pill, or stink. Bizarre, but it’s the truth. I had long abandoned the notion that anything I bought and spent good money for would actually give me good service and last forever. Call me crazy, but these socks gave me freaking hope. They still do, two years after the disaster wrecked these mountains where I live. It recently occurred to me that I might actually want to invest in more Darn Tough socks. Hence this recent order. Sorry to blather. But Darn Tough makes you wish every other maker would shut up and learn how to do things right for a change. My new plan: I have two drawers of practically worthless socks. I intend to wear each one last time, then pitch ’em and replace them with the socks from Vermont that brought hope back in my life. They did not let me down when I needed them, and never will."

"Sustained multiple washes so far. Padding was perfect for multiple hikes in Canadian Rockies. One pair could have lasted 3-4 hikes without washing - don’t smell after use. Highly recommend. Won’t hike with anything else."
