Most socks are way too

"Most socks are way too tight around the ankles. I had been wearing Bombas socks for some time now. At first they were good, but then when buying new pairs of the same kind, they got more snug around the ankles and were very uncomfortable. I was looking for a sock with cushion and being comfortable especially around the ankles. We were shopping at Vanderloop's shoe store and I told them what I was looking for. They suggested the "Lifestyle" in Darn Tough Socks as these were not too snug around the ankles. I bought one pair as that is all they had in size Large. The socks are very comfortable!! They are pricey so it might stop one from trying them, but as the saying goes, you do get what you pay for. I read the reviews that said they are warm in the winter. But being summer in WI I want cool feet. These socks are wonderful and I can feel the A/C on my feet through the socks!! Then I read on the website that the socks are thermoregulating, with the Merino Wool Fiber. Hooray!!! I finally found comfortable, cushioned socks that don't feel like a vice around my ankles. The colors are really cute too. Thank you Darn Tough!!! Now I just want to wear these all the time and throw out all the uncomfortable socks taking up room in my sock drawer!"

On top of that, they shrank noticeably after just one wash, so now they don’t even fit properly. I expected better quality and durability, but these just didn’t hold up.
