Honestly, when the Men’s Health 2021 Outdoor Awards tagged our Number 2 sock as their Best Hiking Sock, we were moved. Personally, we think it’s the No. 1 sock when nature calls. Look closely at this hike sock and you’ll see what we mean. Either way, a blown-out seam should be the least of your worries. That’s why the Number 2 is also No. 1 when it comes to long-lasting toughness and active comfort as well.

Height: Micro Crew
Weight: Midweight

  • Men's micro crew socks average 8.5 in. from heel to cuff - expect them to show about 6 in. above a low hiking shoe or just above a standard hiking boot.
  • A performance fit means no slipping, no bunching, no blisters for peak hiking comfort.
  • Merino Wool is at home on the trail, naturally moving moisture to keep feet fresh and dry in all weather.
  • Our all-season weight, midweight socks thermoregulate to wrap feet in steady comfort when temperatures change.
  • Reinforced Achilles cushion improves the comfort of our socks and helps them last longer.
  • We close every toe seam using our True Seamless™ Toe technology for an ultra smooth, undetectable feel.
  • The “still” in Still Made in Vermont, USA is personal. We knit all our socks at our VT-based Mills - we can't imagine it any other way.
  • Unconditionally Guaranteed for Life - if these aren’t the longest lasting socks you’ve ever owned, return them for another pair.

These are my lucky fishing socks.

"I know it’s going to sound crazy, but the Number 2 socks are my lucky trout fishing socks. First of all, they keep my feet warm, dry and comfortable in my waders standing is a cold stream. And, when I wear them I always seem to catch fish. Luck, superstition, magic knitting process? Bottom line these are great socks."

Darn Tough weekend…

"Love the flying outhouse. For first time in over 50 pairs actually had a defect in the darn tough name on the toe. Must have been made after a “darn tough” weekend."

Out House rocket ship 🚀

"I love the cushion, the color scheme, and the fit. I already have one pair of socks, just like that but different color scheme. I love the rocket ship out house because it reminds me when I was on camp out of a story when we tried throwing firecrackers down and out house thinking it would takeoff like a rocket 🤪"

Great Socks and Fun Pattern!

"These were a gift for my brother in law and they were well received. We share with everyone about Darn Tough socks because we are so pleased with them. The pattern on these made us smile and we wanted to pass that along with a great pair of socks. 😊"

Michael D. (5/5)

Super comfy and travel proof!

"I use these socks for long backpacking trips, walking around town, hanging at home, biking, and anything else. The fit is great. They are super comfortable and more importantly, very breathable. I find. my boots getting stinky well before my feet are. I will definitely be adding more of the DT socks to my closet!"

Great socks

"I think the socks are darn near perfect! I put them on as soon as I got them and haven’t taken them off, it’s been a week. No smell, no gross, dirty feeling. They breath great and stay in position on your feet well, no falling down around your ankles or getting twisted. Bought 2 pair to start but I’ll be buying many more."

Craig W. (5/5)

Great socks, one of my go-to pairs.

"These socks are much better than the cool max ones. There's just something great about merino wool. The fit is good, but not quite as good as feetures socks. Those ones seem to lock into place by themselves, these you have to position them. I'm getting picky here, I actually really like the socks and will be getting more. They're comfortable and warm in cold weather without getting sweaty in hot weather."

BRIAN S. (5/5)

I wish all my socks were this comfortable!

"These socks are my most comfortable pair yet. I got them to replace another set which wore out. Comfort is unmatched and I can wear them for longer trips without them stinking."

Devon M. (5/5)

Amazing quality, great fit and

"Amazing quality, great fit and design. This is the second pair of micro crew midweight hiking socks I've purchased and I couldn't be happier. Thanks for making great socks and for such an amazing warranty. Darn Tough for life! 🙌"

Darn Tough Socks have been

"Darn Tough Socks have been my go to for at least the last decade. The quality is top notch, they are more comfortable than other brands I have tried. The fit is always consistent. In the rare event there is an issue with a pair of socks, the lifetime warranty is really easy to navigate! Finally they always have clever and creative styles! Who doesn't want a rocket ship outhouse on their socks!"

Q&A

Is this the same sock as the 1466 besides the Color way? I recently bought 6 of the 1466 and I want more but I don’t want a bunch the same color way. Didn’t know if some thing besides the color way was different
Hi Lee! Yes, This style sock and style 1466 are both the same height and same weight just a different design!
Men's Number 2 Micro Crew Midweight Hiking Sock- Please, please, please, a zillion times please, make this sock in size small! The medium is too big for most of us women. I’ve asked before and will keep asking cause I just love this sock pattern. Just cracks me up!
We will definitely share your feedback and request with the team! Stay tuned!🧦
Is that an outhouse on the socks?
Hey Jan, it is indeed an outhouse! Drink from enough streams and you’ll eventually get an explosive reaction. Look closely at this hike sock and you’ll see what we mean. However, a blown-out seam should be the least of your worries. That’s why the Number 2 is #1 when it comes long-lasting toughness and active comfort.
Does this sock have the same cushioning level and tech as the ATC midweight trail sock? Wool, nylon and spandex content look similar. The ATC socks appear to have tighter knit around the calves. Would the ATC sock be more durable regarding bushes, rocks and other snags?
Hi Ian, the ATC and Number 2 styles are both Midweight Hiking socks that feature cushion under foot, around the toes, and heel. The biggest difference between them is the added designs. These styles will offer very similar comfort and durability.
How do you wash these socks--the ones that have at least partial wool?
We recommend washing your Darn Tough socks in cold or warm water and either line or tumble drying on low to no heat. While standard detergent is fine, it's best to stay away from fabric softener, Oxyclean, and bleach. Laundering inside out also helps fluff up the cushion layer which can flatten over years of use.
