"Look. Just buy the socks. Micro Crew is what you want for trail running, and you don't want more cushion than Lightweight for a couple of reasons, including ensuring you don't train the wrong biomechanics. Buy shoes that have the BOA Li2 dials for the lace system, go to a local shop that has a "gait analysis" pad, and work on achieving left to right balance as much as possible. Then go win some events in your Darn Tough. There are many great patterns to choose from, from these staid tactical ones, to delightful "forest meme" selections. I wish they made more of the latter in men's sizes, but don't worry, I already e-mailed them about that. "You're welcome!" I may, in the end, need a larger sock drawer."
