Hi, I am Coree Woltering. I am a professional trail/ultra runner for inov-8 and Down To Run®. I enjoy racing any distance on any surface. I raced 23 times in 2016, from 1 mile to 50 miles, on track, road, and trail. In 2017 I plan to make the jump to 100km and 100 miles.
2016 was a breakout year for me, running personal records from 5k to 50 miles. I would say the biggest highlight of 2016 was running 5:30:15 for 50 miles at Tunnel Hill. It ended up being the second fastest 50-mile time in North America for the year.
I was not always a distance/endurance athlete. In grade school, I was a 200m/400m runner. I then ran 400m–1600m events for Ottawa Township High School. I went on to run 400m–3000m at Greenville College. I took up swimming and cycling in college as a form of cross training since I was injured often. In my mind, it made sense to start doing triathlons. By the time I was finished at Greenville, I was a 2x qualifier for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships and still running on our 4x400m team.
I enjoyed triathlon for a few years, but my heart just wasn’t in it. That is when I discovered trail running and ultras, and it has been the perfect fit for me. I love exploring the country (and hopefully some international destinations) by foot, and getting to see things many people don’t take the time to check out. You never know what the conditions are going to be like for training/racing, but that just adds to the excitement.
When I am not running, I enjoy beer/wine tasting, cooking, and spending time with my husband and dog.
